Community Health Fair Provides Free Health Screening for Uninsured Children and Adults

 

Kansas City, MO, - Maternal and Child Health Coalition in collaboration with Bethel Seventh Day Adventist Church and Injury Free Coalition for Kids of Kansas City are co-sponsoring a free community health fair entitled, Promoting Good Health: Your Gateway to Life in 2005, to assist families with limited or no medical insurance in receiving essential health screenings for adults and children.  This event will be held at:         

Bethany Community Center & Park

1120 Central

Kansas City, Kansas

 

Saturday, August 27, 2005

11 a.m. - 4 p.m.

 

This event will provide an opportunity for uninsured children and their parents to receive information and health screenings for blood pressure, diabetes, glaucoma/vision, cholesterol levels, HIV testing, hearing tests, dental exams, and blood lead level tests for infants through 6 years of age. Also, special attractions and demonstrations include car seat safety check, bicycle helmets & fittings, 9-1-1 Simulator, free clothes & food, LifeNet helicopter, Kansas Highway Patrol Rollover truck, Ask-the-Doctor booth, and free gun safety locks giveaway.

 

Participants visiting at least 3 health screenings and 15 educational booths will receive a bag full of groceries and personal care items, a trip to the gently-used clothing area, and a chance for door prizes raffled every half hour. This event is open to everyone from the Kansas City metropolitan area. Sponsoring organizations include FirstGuard Health Plan, St. Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City, Providence Medical Center, MasterLock Co., Johnson & Johnson, Bayer Healthcare, and Roche Diagnostics Corporation.

                       

Maternal and Child Health Coalition promotes the health of mothers and children through community planning, education, advocacy and collaboration with organizations addressing infant mortality, immunization, childhood obesity, maternal health and child safety.
