What? |
Kansas City Healthy Start operates on a $6 million grant from the
Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services
Administration. This program is aimed at reducing infant mortality and
improving the health of pregnant women and children in targeted zip-codes
in Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri. |

How? |
Kansas City Healthy Start Initiative will: | |
|
- Work with pregnant women, fathers, and
families with infants up to two years of age.
|
- Reach out to women who are unaware of services or unable to use them because of inadequate transportation or lack of child care.
|
- Provide additional training and education for new and expectant mothers, as well as professional providers in areas such as nutrition, parenting, family planning, and smoking cessation.
|
- Strive to increase the childhood
immunization rate.
|
- Increase the number of pregnant or postpartum
women who are screened and treated for depression.
|
- Pinpoint gaps in existing prenatal and child health services, identifying barriers preventing infants and expectant mothers from receiving proper care.
|
- Coordinate and link existing prenatal and child health programs focusing on improved case management.
|
- Address the needs of diverse
populations, focusing on demographic and societal
characteristics, in order to reduce differences in perinatal
health outcomes.

- Focus on inter-conceptional care (care
between pregnancies) with an emphasis on pregnancy prevention
and child abuse prevention.

Call for Prenatal and/or Child Health Care
To be eligible for Kansas City Healthy Start, you must
be pregnant or raising an infant under the age of two, and reside in one
of the following zip-code areas:
Missouri:
64106, 64108, 64109, 64110, 64124, 64127, 64128 or 64130.
Kansas:
66101, 66102, 66103, 66104, 66105 or 66106. | |
